For Patients
Harri Hakkarainen
LL, general practitioner, Master of Sports Science, sports physician
I strive to carefully identify the underlying causes of health problems and proactively address them to prevent illness while ensuring effective treatment.
Who am I?
In 1995 I graduated from the University of Jyväskylä as a sports physiologist and trainer. I received my medical degree in 2005 and worked in major league sports for 33 years, first as a trainer and then as a trainer-physician. I gained experience working in sports such as athletics, hockey, Formula 1, cross-country skiing, volleyball and football. During my career, I have also worked as an occupational health doctor at the Finnish Sports Institute (Vierumäki), at FINLA's Riihimäki office, in the city of Tuusula and as an occupational health general practitioner at Pihlajalinna's Sello office.
Thanks to my many years of experience as a sports physician, I have a good understanding of the causes and approaches to treating musculoskeletal injuries in workers performing heavy physical work. In my work, I try to carefully find out the cause of health problems and influence them preventively and, of course, effectively treat the illness. I am particularly knowledgeable about the causes of back problems and their treatment.
How do I spend my free time?
Family and friends are the most important things in my life, followed by work and patients. I have a wife and daughter, and a Finnish Spitz named Omppu. I read a lot of interdisciplinary journals and publications. I try to take care of my mental and physical state by exercising a lot with my family and our dog.
