General Practitioner Appointment

A general practitioner is a medical professional whom you can consult about various symptoms and illnesses, medical statements and general health concerns. The doctor assesses the patient’s condition and, where necessary, orders examinations and treatment or refers the patient to an appropriate medical specialist.

An in-person appointment is necessary if the doctor needs to examine the patient physically or perform a procedure or examination. The most common reasons for contacting us remotely include: a cold, inflammation or infection without signs of complications; the need to continue or adjust previously prescribed treatment; the need for a short sick leave certificate when the condition can be assessed remotely; the need for follow-up or consultation after an examination; or the patient being outside Helsinki and having a health concern that does not require a physical examination or procedure.

Visit the clinic if the doctor needs to examine you physically to assess your health; you require a procedure; a mole or another skin change needs to be examined and/or removed; a previously issued prescription is not visible in OmaKanta and you need a new prescription; you require a certificate that can only be issued after an in-person examination; your symptoms persist or their cause remains unclear; the doctor recommends an in-person examination during a remote appointment; you cannot complete electronic identification using Finnish online banking credentials; or in other situations requiring an in-person appointment.

Yes. The doctor first examines the mole or other skin change and assesses whether it can be removed. If the lesion is suitable for removal, the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. If the lesion cannot be removed as part of this service, you will only be charged for the doctor’s appointment.

Yes. You can book an in-person appointment at the clinic without a Finnish personal identity code (henkilötunnus). Bring valid proof of identity with you.

No. Medfin’s remote medical services require strong electronic identification using Finnish online banking credentials. If this is not possible, book an in-person appointment at the clinic.

To obtain a new prescription or renew a prescription issued more than two years ago, you must book a remote or in-person appointment with a doctor. Please note that the doctor decides whether to prescribe a medicine based solely on complete information about the patient. If the available information is insufficient, the doctor may decline to issue the prescription, order additional examinations or refer the patient to an appropriate specialist. The doctor’s time will be charged according to the current price list even if the prescription is not issued.

You can request a remote prescription renewal without a doctor’s appointment by completing the form. If it is a medicine that you take regularly, the prescription is visible in OmaKanta and the doctor has sufficient information about your current condition, the doctor may renew the prescription by the end of the working day. If the information is insufficient, the doctor will invite you to an appointment or request additional information.

You must book an appointment if the doctor does not have sufficient information about your condition, additional information, an in-person appointment or examinations are required, or the medicine is classified as potent and/or potentially addictive.

As a rule, a patient can obtain a short sick leave certificate remotely in clear cases of illness, such as a cold or migraine attack, and in other situations that do not require an in-person appointment. The final decision is always made by the doctor after assessing the individual patient’s condition. If a physical examination or additional examinations are required, the doctor will invite you to the clinic.

Yes. If the doctor considers an examination or consultation with an appropriate specialist justified, the doctor can issue a referral to a specialist at a municipal clinic or a referral for laboratory tests.

An appointment for patients aged 65 and over costs 30,20 € at our clinic. No clinic fee or Kanta fee is added to the appointment price. We also offer reduced prices for laboratory tests. Based on the outcome of the appointment, our doctor can, where necessary, issue referrals to medical specialists in public healthcare.

Prices that include Kela reimbursement apply to patients covered by the Finnish social security system. In all other cases, the full appointment price applies. You can view prices before and after Kela reimbursement on our Price List page.

If you need to cancel, notify us no later than 12 hours before the appointment. Call us or cancel the booking through your personal account on the website. Cancellations by text message are not accepted.

All private clinics in Finland charge a clinic fee (poliklinikkamaksu) in addition to the doctor’s fee. It covers the cost of specialised software used to exchange information with public databases, reception services, office expenses and similar costs. At Medfin Medical Centre, the clinic fee is 25 € and is charged once per visit, regardless of the number of appointments and procedures performed on the same day. It does not apply to remote services or services provided under the Freedom of Choice Trial.
