Harri Hakkarainen

LL, general practitioner, Master of Sports Science, sports physician

I strive to carefully identify the underlying causes of health problems and proactively address them to prevent illness while ensuring effective treatment.

Who am I?

In 1995 I graduated from the University of Jyväskylä as a sports physiologist and trainer. I received my medical degree in 2005 and worked in major league sports for 33 years, first as a trainer and then as a trainer-physician. I gained my experience working in sports such as athletics, hockey, Formula 1, cross-country skiing, aviation and football. During my career, I have also worked at a community health center, in the primary care department at a neurology clinic, and as a physician in emergency departments at several university hospitals.

Thanks to my many years of experience as a sports physician, I have a good understanding of the causes and approaches to treating musculoskeletal injuries in workers performing heavy physical work. In my work, I try to carefully find out the cause of health problem and influence them preventively and, of course, effectively treat the illness. I am particularly knowledgeable about the causes of back problems and their treatment.

How I spend free time?

Family and friends are the most important thing in my life, followed by work and patients. I have a wife and daughter, and a Finnish Spitz named Omppu. I read a lot of interdisciplinary journals and publications. I try to take care of my mental and physical state by exercising a lot with my family and our dog.
