If an entrepreneur does not have any employees, occupational healthcare for the entrepreneur is not mandatory.
Entrepreneurs can voluntarily sign an occupational healthcare agreement for themselves. This includes, for example, YEL-insured entrepreneurs, sole proprietors (toiminimi), self-employed entrepreneurs (yksinyrittäjä) and freelancers.
If a company hires employees, the employer is legally required to arrange statutory occupational healthcare for its employees. In that case, the issue is no longer only the entrepreneur's voluntary occupational healthcare agreement but also the employer's legal obligation towards its employees.
If your company has employees, please see our page on statutory occupational health services.
