Harry Hakkarainen
General practitioner, Master of Sports Science, sports doctor
In my work, I strive to carefully determine the cause of ailments, intervene preventively, and treat them effectively.
Who am I?
I graduated from the University of Jyväskylä in 1995 with a degree in sports physiology and coaching. I received my medical degree in 2005 and have worked in high-level sports for 33 years, initially as a coach, then as a coach-medic. I gained my experience in sports such as track and field, hockey, Formula-1, cross-country skiing, volleyball, and soccer. Over my career, I have worked as an occupational health doctor at the Finnish Sports Institute (Vierumäki), in the FINLA office in Riihimäki, in Tuusula and as a general practice occupational health doctor in the Pihlajalinna office in Sello.
Thanks to my many years of experience as a sports physician, I understand well the causes and approaches to treating injuries to the musculoskeletal system of workers who perform heavy physical labor. In my work, I strive to carefully identify the cause of ailments and preventively address them, and of course, effectively treat the ailment.
How do I spend my free time?
Family and friends are the most important things in my life, followed by work and patients. I have a wife and a daughter, as well as a Finnish Spitz named Ompu. I read a lot of interdisciplinary journals and publications. I try to take care of my psychophysical condition, training a lot with my family and our dog.
